About Aquila Eco Retreat

Welcome to our patch of paradise. We’re Alice and Jason and our family has been farming this piece of Tasmanian bushland for decades. Aquila is named after the Tasmanian wedge-tailed eagle (Aquila audax fleayi), which we often see soaring over our land. We are deeply passionate about this land and the natural resources the earth and sun provide. It’s our pleasure to share these values through off-grid glamping and eco experiences that offer ultimate luxury and comfort in a unique country setting of space and freedom.

Aquila Eco Retreat is located at 739 Brinktop Road in Richmond, Tasmania, surrounded by the vineyards, farmland and rolling countryside of the Coal River Valley. The retreat is approximately 15 minutes from Hobart Airport and around 30 minutes from central Hobart.

What accommodation is available at Aquila Eco Retreat?

Guests can choose from three private eco pods or the Polygala luxury glamping tent. Each accommodation option sleeps two adults and includes an ensuite bathroom, private deck, kitchenette, comfortable living space and views across the surrounding countryside.

Is Aquila Eco Retreat adults-only?

Yes. Aquila Eco Retreat is strictly adults-only. Children and infants are not permitted within the accommodation or retreat grounds, helping maintain the peaceful atmosphere guests come to enjoy.

Is Aquila Eco Retreat completely off-grid?

Yes. Aquila is a solar-powered, sustainable off-grid retreat. The accommodation has been designed to reduce environmental impact while still providing modern comforts, including quality linen, kitchen facilities, heating and private bathrooms.

Is the accommodation suitable during winter?

Yes. Aquila Eco Retreat provides comfortable accommodation throughout the year. Every accommodation option includes a wood heater with firewood supplied. The eco pods also include reverse-cycle air conditioning and energy-efficient insulation, while the glamping tent has an electric blanket and heated throw rug.

Which accommodation options have private outdoor baths?

The Melaleuca Eco Pod and the Polygala glamping tent feature private outdoor clawfoot baths. Guests can relax in the bath while enjoying the peaceful rural setting and surrounding Coal River Valley views.

Is accessible accommodation available?

Yes. The Polygala glamping tent provides accessible accommodation and includes an accessible ensuite bathroom. Pathways, ramps and additional arrival assistance are also available. Guests with specific accessibility requirements are encouraged to contact Aquila before booking so suitable arrangements can be confirmed.

Are pets allowed at Aquila Eco Retreat?

Pets are not permitted because Aquila is located on a working fine-merino sheep farm with resident animals and local wildlife. Accredited service animals are welcome with prior notice.
