In the News! (And the Magazines … and the Guidebooks … and even the TV!)
Since we opened the gate of Aquila in September 2022, something wonderful has been happening: people keep wanting to write about us. Lovely, talented, and wildly well-connected people — journalists, editors, bloggers, and all-round tourism legends — have popped up, asking to feature our little slice of off-grid paradise in magazines, books, websites, newspapers, media releases, and even a TV show.
As a small fish splashing around in Tasmania’s ginormous tourism pond, we’ve been totally humbled (and a bit starstruck) by the attention. These media folk know the ropes — their words travel much further than ours ever could, and we’re endlessly grateful.
So, we thought, why not gather some of the magic in one place? Here’s a roundup of some of our most exciting moments in the spotlight.
Lights, Camera, Aquila!
One of our all-time favourite brush-with-fame moments happened back in 2023, when we were still operating under the name Aquila Glamping. Enter: Enna Yamashiro — celebrated artist and host of the long-running Japanese travel show Tabi Salad. Tourism Australia reached out, and before we knew it, Enna and her film crew were exploring our eco-pods, soaking up the scenery, and sketching portraits of Jason and me as if it were the most normal thing in the world. Spoiler: it wasn’t. It was surreal. And amazing. And yes — it aired to millions of Japanese viewers!
From Paper to Pixels
Our early feature in The Mercury newspaper still makes us beam — seeing ourselves in print as a brand-new business was a bit of a pinch-us moment.
Fast forward to 2025, and we’ve racked up mentions in:
- The Hobart Magazine (April 2025 edition)
- Qantas Travel Insider
- The Examiner newspaper
- Tasmanian Travelways magazine
- The Age (yes, that Age!) — where journalist Andrew Bain included us in ‘Nine Must-Do Highlights of Tasmania in Winter’.
And speaking of print …
We’ve been approached by none other than Lonely Planet to be included in one of their travel inspiration books featuring some of the best glamping spots in Australia. We also hosted a famil for Globetrotter magazin to be included in one of their hard-copy coffee table books in Europe. Yes — actual, glossy, beautifully bound pages!
Nature, Climate and a little bit of Glory
Our feathered friends got a spotlight too when Wildlife Tourism Australia featured us in a story about bird and wildlife on the retreat grounds — wedge-tailed eagles, rosellas, currawongs, ecidneas and more. Meanwhile, Clarence Climate Action named us Climate Champions (best title ever) for our work in sustainability and solar-powered, off-grid living. Our regional tourism organisation, Destination Southern Tasmania dedicated a media release to our newest guest amenities, Flame Space and our Fly Away Here helipad for next-level guest touring of the southern region of Tasmania.
Best-of Lists and Luxe Retreats
If there were a tourism version of the Oscars, these next ones would be our red carpet:
- Bottom of the World named us one of “Tasmania’s Best Eco-Friendly Stays”, highlighting our luxury touches and peaceful bushland vibe.
- Power Traveller called us a “serene sanctuary” (so perfect).
- Sitchu listed us in “The Best Glamping in Tasmania for a Luxe Wilderness Retreat” — because glamping here means an outdoor claw-foot bath, a king bed, and a Huon Pine bedhead, of course.
And the Affiliate Mentions …
We’ve also popped up on these lovely tourism websites:
- Tubs of Tasmania
- Australia Travel
- TasGuide
- The Tasmanian Trip
- Glamping Australia
- Hobart & Beyond
Each mention has helped our little eco-retreat shine a bit brighter, and we’re grateful to every writer, editor, and photographer who has taken the time to share our story.
So, from Us to You …
To everyone who’s supported, visited, booked, stayed, reviewed, snapped a pic, or shared a story — thank you. This blog isn’t just a roundup of features; it’s a special letter to the people who believe in what we’re building here at Aquila: something thoughtful, beautiful, sustainable, and hopefully just a little bit magical.
